Tax Volunteers Recognized

Volunteer tax preparers in Polk County helped save families about $57,000 in filing fees this past tax season.  Better than that, they helped families direct almost $66,000 in refunds to emergency savings accounts!

A volunteer appreciation brunch was held at United Way of Central Florida, Wednesday,  to recognize their important work.

Some lower-income families can get up to 25% of their annual income at tax season due to the earned income tax credit.  United Way created the Free-Tax-Prep program to help families prepare for emergencies by using tax refunds to build emergency savings accounts.  This year families saved almost $66,000.
