At the annual United Way Community Leaders Conference, held this week in National Harbor Maryland (May13-15), hundreds of community leaders have come together to celebrate achievements and discuss importance of United Way’s work: to drive lasting change that builds stronger communities.
Jerome Ferson, Greta Dupuy, Jennifer Jonsson, David Robinson and Brenda Reddout are attending the Community Leaders Conference. United Way Staff attending are: Terry Worthington, Penny Borgia, Christina Criser and Michael Ehlenbeck. Ferson will become Board Chair in July. Jennifer Johnson of A-C-T Environmental Infrastructure is the incoming Campaign Chair.
Tuesday’s opening session featured United Way Worldwide President, Brian Gallagher. He challenged United Ways and local leaders to continue working together –to further define impact and resource development needed to drive change. In addition to other achievements, he congratulated the work of United Ways, reminding us that our incremental local improvements have driven a 7% increase in the US Graduation Rate since 2006.
We’re making progress.
And, there’s still much work to be done.
Gallagher has challenged us to innovate mobile communications that build awareness and inspire greater involvement in our work. To lead community conversations to discuss current issues like youth unemployment rates. To press on for results that advance education, income and health—all in the spirit of good to great! Join us. There has never been a more exciting time to be involved with United Way!
