2017 Hurricane Season- Information you need to know

We are entering the most active weather season. Remember to be prepared for tropical storms and potential hurricanes! From mid-august to mid-october tropical activity spikes, accounting for 87% of category 1 & 2 hurricanes and 96% of category 3,4 & 5 hurricanes (NOAA).

Make A Plan!

1.) Think ahead and create a family emergency plan. 

2.) Plan how you will get together in different situations. 

3.) Discuss what to do if you must evacuate. 

4.) Practice your plans with your family

5.) Have a contact list. 

6.) If phones are down, pick two meeting places: 

           a.) Near your home

           b.) Somewhere outside the neighborhood. 

7.) Test smoke/carbon monoxide detectors monthly. 

8.) Learn how to turn off gas, electric, water and heater systems at main breaker switches. 

9.) Learn First-Aid and CPR. 

10.) Discuss basic safety rules. 

11.) Make sure children know what to do if they are home alone. 

12.) Plan for elders or disabled family members and neighbors. 

13.) Include pets in your family emergency plan. 


Be Informed! 

1.) Learn about the different threats:

     a.) Severe Weather

     b.) Fire

     c.) Hazardous Materials (biological, chemical, explosive or radiological) 

     d. Nuclear

2.) Discuss the different hazards with your family. 

3.) Monitor TV, radio or trusted Internet sites for information 

4.) Stay calm, have plans ready and listen for instructioins from local officials.
