Make sure to tune in December 10th for the second episode of The Hero Effect
Chef Chad Houser created Café Momentum, a restaurant and training platform to provide post-release paid internships to at-risk youth who have spent time in juvenile facilities. The program helps equip employees with job and life skills mentoring, including leadership, social, vocational, financial, parenting and anger management skills. Café Momentum was created through GroundFloor, a social incubator housed by United Way of Metropolitan Dallas.
“The kids that we work with have been paved a path to jail. Without someone paving a new path, giving them a new map and saying ‘I believe in you, I love you, I will help you’, their chances of success are very small,” said Houser. “Our mission is to help transform these kids’ lives so they can achieve their full potential at the end of the 12-month internship. These same young men and women, who were once referred to as throw-aways, are now employed, tax-paying, fully contributing members of society.”
Hosted by Donald Driver, a former Wide Receiver for the Green Bay Packers and Emily Wilson, a philanthropist and actress, each episode of The Hero Effect concludes with a call to action, encouraging viewers to visit www.HeroEffect.com and connect with their local United Way or other community-based organizations to create positive change.
By shining a spotlight on Café Momentum, The Hero Effect is underscoring the important work that is needed to help young people across our country gain the education, skills and confidence they need to succeed as adults.
