Volunteer teams from local businesses are participating in the 2011 United Way Days of Caring during the month of October. Volunteer teams are matched with United Way of Central Florida partner agencies throughout Polk County in order to perform tasks focusing on education, income and health.
Jobs such as assisting agency clients, painting, landscaping, clerical work, and many other tasks will be completed during the 2011 Days of Caring. This is an opportunity for local residents to make a “hands on” impact with United Way partner agencies and also view how their United Way contributions are being invested.
The United Way Days of Caring were originally held as a single day event intended to recognize companies’ volunteer spirit. This year the event was expanded so volunteers could participate throughout October, as best fits each company’s work schedule. Volunteer leaders Bonnie Parker, SunTrust Banks, and Rick Tillis, Mosaic, are serving as co-chairs for Days of Caring.
“United Way of Central Florida is very grateful to our volunteers,” said Terry Worthington, President of the United Way of Central Florida. “Thanks to the generosity of these area companies and their employees, United Way is able to help create opportunities for a better life for the people in our community.”
The United Way would like to thank our participating employers, ArrMaz, Bank of America, CF Industries, City of Lakeland, FedEx, GEICO, John Bean Technologies, Ledger Media Group, Mosaic, Polk County employees, Polk Tax Collector, Publix Super Markets, QMI, State Farm, SunTrust Banks, and Watson Clinic, who help make these events possible.
