Language skills are the primary predictors of academic success or failure in kindergarten, and reading with children improves their language proficiency. Parent Lending Libraries increase opportunities for parents to read and interact with their children, while building school readiness skills. These convenient libraries allow parents and children to check out age-appropriate books to read together at home every day. Thanks to wonderful sponsors, there are currently 119 such libraries located in child care centers in Polk and Hardee counties. Over 213,000 books have been borrowed since the program began.
Does your child’s child care center have a Parent Lending Library? Ask your child’s teacher to show you their library and borrow a book today! For more information call Coleen at 863-648-1500 ext.248
