You and your children can change whipping cream into butter for your Thanksgiving feast. Give each child a small plastic jar filled halfway with whipping cream. Place a marble inside of each jar. Shake the jar until the liquid takes on the form of butter. See whose turns into butter first and talk about how everyone shook the jar differently. You can make a chart of the time it took each person’s cream to change into butter. Talk about butter churns and other methods of making butter in the Pilgrims' times. (You may need to do some homework first!) Drain off the buttermilk and let everyone sample it and see what they think. Rinse the butter lumps in cold water. Store them in the refrigerator and remember to add to your Thanksgiving table.
