ReadingPals Valentine Appreciation

Blog Inside ReadingPal volunteers were hosted at a Valentine's event this week at the Lakeland, Yacht Club to: "show some love!"

ReadingPals are volunteers who adopt a small group of kindergarten children in their local school, to read to every week. The children's reading scores are collected before and after the school year that show the project works to help the children achieve grade level reading, by third grade!

The idea was created by Carol and Barney Barnett and funded throughout ten Florida United Ways. Barney Barnett has served on the United Way of America Board of Directors and both Carol and Barney are committed to the idea that it's necessary to work in a united way in order to bring important community change.

Studies show that effective reading by third grade sets a life long pattern for a child's success that enables them to contribute to their community. Carol and Barney and 190 volunteers are changing lives and our community, because they LIVE UNITED. Join the movement and find out more about being a ReadingPal!
